Belle Haven Action Gifts $11,000.00 To San Francisco Bay View Newspaper to Expand Their Student Internship into San Mateo County

May 12, 2025 – Belle Haven Action gifted $11,000.00 to San Francisco Bay View Newspaper to expand their student internship to San Mateo County. The funds are allocated to hire one San Francisco Bay View National Newspaper student in San Mateo County, assist with affiliated organization costs, and other related expenses concerning the internship program. The collaboration was created by the following think tank: Honorable Cecilia Taylor – Executive Director of Belle Haven Action, Kevin Epps – San Francisco Bay View Newspaper Executive Director and Editor, and Dr. Tiffany Caesar – San Francisco Bay View Newspaper Internship Coordinator.
Belle Haven Action approached the San Francisco Bay View Newspaper for a partnership due to limited media coverage on topics that address critical needs in San Mateo County. San Francisco Bay View Newspaper also seeks to expand its reach in the Bay Area by including other regions like San Mateo County. The partnership allows Belle Haven Action to work with students, young adults, and community members in colleges and educational institutions to cover issues within the established San Francisco Bay View Newspaper student internship program.
The new partnership between Belle Haven Action and the San Francisco Bay View newspaper will further their capacity together in movement and power-building by shifting the power to the community, empowering our local students and community members to participate in positive systemic change. The San Francisco Bay View newspaper will help San Mateo County create access to their own news sources and shift the power within their community allowing them to control their own narrative avoiding oftentimes negative representation. The foundation of the partnership is built on trust and collaboration with the community that will allow the underserved and underinvested to share their stories freely.
Specifically, for movement and power-building, Belle Haven Action is strategically partnering with the San Francisco Bay View Newspaper to amplify voices that are under-resourced and under-invested in the community and expand the coverage of topics that address the critical needs of our community through local journalism.
Though Belle Haven Action has always amplified the voices of underserved people within their community, the new partnership focused on local journalism includes the partnership with the San Francisco Bay View Newspaper student internship program. For 50 years, the San Francisco Bay View Newspaper has successfully magnified the voices of under-invested and under-resourced community members in the Bay View and Bay at large for systematic change. In addition, Belle Haven, a neighborhood in Menlo Park, and Bay View, a neighborhood in San Francisco, share similar challenges concerning public health, housing, economic disparity, redlining, civic engagement, and educational needs. Both organizations align in their core values of empowering and advocating for the communities they serve.
Please stay tuned for more updates concerning the new partnership between Belle Haven Action and the San Francisco Bay View Newspaper.
